Allertex Ltd is one of the United Kingdom’s largest organisations of its type assisting the textile industry.  Through exclusive working relationships with a number of international textile machinery manufacturers and accessory producers, many of them leaders in their field, Allertex Ltd is highly regarded as an integral part of the textile industry within the United Kingdom.

The organisation was founded on Friday 1 July 1977 by our Chairman Barry Whitaker and Sales Director Michael Clay, who don’t need reminding of those early days when they were painting walls, fitting carpets, with their wives washing the windows, in time for the grand opening in Paradise Street!

After long deliberations they decided to call this new company Allertex Ltd – “Aller” from Allerton, where Barry Whitaker lived at the time, and “Tex” from the word textiles.

In the beginning Allertex only represented a few European companies, the main ones being Seydel & Co, Germany  and SACM, France.  However, the French weaving machine manufacturer soon started to earn itself an outstanding reputation which led to the representation of complimentary agencies.  Within the first year the two directors were joined by a further two Sales Technicians who were previous colleagues from BL Engineering.

In 1986 Allertex were appointed the UK sales agency for Lindauer Dornier in Germany, the world-renowned manufacturer of weaving machines.  Through its partnership with Dornier and its existing base of contacts, in 1989 Allertex diversified and created a sister company called Weaving & Knitting Accessories (UK) Ltd (W&K).  This company was created to supply accessories for all makes and types of weaving machines, thus allowing the parent company Allertex to concentrate its activities on selling capital equipment.

Over the following years the W & K sales programme continued to expand developing its own impressive portfolio of agencies with a number of leading accessory suppliers.

Due to the constantly changing phase of the textile industry in the United Kingdom over the recent years, Weaving & Knitting Accessories (UK) Ltd was integrated back into the Allertex company in 1999 to become its Weaving & Knitting division - still representing world leaders in the accessory field.

Allertex Ltd and Weaving & Knitting division represent some 38 international  companies supplying equipment into the UK textile market used for the production, manufacture, processing and finishing of all types of textiles and textile related products.

Situated in Bradford, which is famed to be the very centre of the origins of today’s woollen industry as well as at the heart of the picturesque Pennines, Allertex are pleased to celebrate their 30th year of business.

"To Provide the best possible service to our machinery making principals and our machinery using customer alike"
